Notes on Diversity in the Living World for Class 6 Science
Biodiversity refers to the vast variety of plants and animals found in a particular habitat or on Earth as a whole. Each organism has unique features and plays a specific role in the ecosystem.
Grouping is the method of arranging things based on their similarities and differences.
Plants are primarily categorized based on their growth habit:
Venation is the pattern of veins on a leaf:
The Root-Leaf Link You can often tell what kind of root a plant has just by looking at its leaves! If the leaves have net-like (reticulate) veins, the plant likely has a taproot. If the veins run straight (parallel), it probably has fibrous roots.
Don't Force It! When checking if a seed is a monocot or dicot, soak it in water first. Trying to split a dry seed might just break it, whereas a soaked seed will naturally separate if it has two cotyledons.
Natural Engineers Webbed feet act like paddles in the water, providing more surface area to push against, making ducks and frogs efficient swimmers!
