1. Classroom Opener (The Disappearing Water)

Demonstration: At the beginning of the day, wipe a wet sponge across the chalkboard so it leaves a visible wet streak.
Wait 5 minutes. The water will disappear.
Ask: "Where did the water go? Did it fall on the floor?"
Concept: Introduce that water can turn into invisible air (gas) and float away. This is called Evaporation.

2. Core Concepts: The Water Cycle Basics

Teach the physical concept before the vocabulary.

A. The Three Steps of the Cycle

Evaporation: The Sun heats up the water in rivers, lakes, and oceans. The water turns into water vapor (gas) and rises into the sky. (Refer to the chalkboard demo).
Condensation: High in the sky, it is cold. The invisible water vapor cools down and turns back into tiny water droplets. These droplets stick together to form clouds.
Precipitation (Rain): When the clouds get too heavy and full of water, the water falls back down to Earth as rain or snow.

B. Where does our water come from?

Rain is the main source of fresh water.
It fills our rivers, lakes, and goes deep underground (groundwater). We pump it into our homes through pipes.

C. Conservation (Saving Water)

Even though there is a lot of water on Earth, very little of it is fresh water we can drink.
Actions: Turn off the tap while brushing teeth; fix leaking pipes; collect rainwater in buckets.

3. Classroom Activity: Cloud in a Jar

Prep: A glass jar, hot water, a plate, and some ice cubes.

The Task (Teacher Demo):

Pour hot water into the glass jar (creates water vapor).
Quickly place the plate on top of the jar.
Put ice cubes on top of the plate to make it cold.
Observation: Students will see "clouds" (fog) form inside the jar, and soon, "rain" droplets will fall from the bottom of the cold plate back into the hot water.
Ask: "Which part is the Sun? Which part is the cold sky?"

4. Assessment Check

Question: "Imagine you left a bowl of water out in the hot sun all day. When you came back, the bowl was half empty. Did an animal drink it, or did something else happen? Explain."
