NCERT Biology Activities for Activity 8.1: Vegetative Propagation in Potato - Class_07_Science
Aim/Objective: To demonstrate the process of vegetative propagation in a potato through its "eyes."
Materials Required:
Procedure:
The "eyes" of a potato are axillary buds located at the nodes of the modified underground stem (tuber). These buds are capable of developing into complete new plants identical to the parent.
Always handle the knife with care. Younger students should perform the cutting step only under adult supervision to prevent accidental cuts.
For faster results, use a potato that has already started to sprout (showing tiny white or green shoots). This indicates the buds have already broken dormancy.
