From no formal subject to first-time naming and pointing.
The one shift: From no formal subject (pre-primary) to first-time naming and pointing. The entire year is about vocabulary and observation — nothing more.
| Term | Focus | Topics |
|---|---|---|
| Term 1 | Self | Body parts, care of body, our food |
| Term 2 | Immediate world | Plants around us, animals around us, water, our clothes |
| Term 3 | Community | My family, my school, our helpers, safety rules, means of transport |
No written tests. Use oral check-ins (can the child point to and name 5 body parts?) and picture-sorting tasks (can they group 4 animal pictures correctly?). Record as observation notes, not marks.
CBSE Class 1 has a fixed 16-chapter NCERT sequence you can follow directly. CISCE has no fixed book — use this term structure regardless of which publisher (Selina/Frank/other) your school has assigned; slot their chapters into these three terms by theme.
