Diseases & Transmission
Types
- Communicable Disease: A disease that can be transmitted from one person to another.
- Non-communicable Disease: A disease that cannot be transmitted from one person to another.
- Endemic Disease: A disease that is constantly present in a particular population or geographical area.
- Epidemic Disease: A widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time.
- Pandemic Disease: An epidemic of an infectious disease that has spread across a large region, for instance multiple continents or worldwide.
- Sporadic Disease: A disease that occurs infrequently and irregularly.
Modes of Transmission
- Airborne: The disease is transmitted through the air.
- Waterborne: The disease is transmitted through contaminated water.
- Vectors: The disease is transmitted by an animal, such as a mosquito or a fly.
- Housefly: Can transmit diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever.
- Mosquito: Can transmit diseases such as malaria and dengue fever.
- Cockroach: Can transmit diseases such as salmonellosis and gastroenteritis.
